For Parents

If your child has been bullied and the school isn’t responding effectively,
here’s what to do

First Steps When Bullying Occurs

Taking the right steps immediately can make a significant difference in how effectively the situation is addressed
Document Everything Immediately

Write down dates, times, locations, what happened, who was involved, and any witnesses. Include your child's emotional and physical reactions.

Report to the School

File a formal written report (not just verbal) with the teacher, counselor, and principal. Keep copies of everything you submit.

Request Written Response

Ask for the school's written plan to address the situation, including specific actions and timelines.

Follow Up in Writing

If nothing changes within the promised timeframe, send a follow-up email referencing your original report and the lack of action.

Frequently Asked Questions

How much does SANI's advocacy cost?

We offer several service tiers depending on the complexity of your case. Contact us for a free initial consultation to discuss your specific needs and our pricing structure.

How long does the process take?

Timeline varies based on school responsiveness and case complexity. Most cases see initial school response within 2-4 weeks of Case File submission. Full resolution can take 6-12 weeks.

Do you represent parents in legal proceedings?

SANI provides advocacy and documentation services, not legal representation. However, our Case Files are often used by attorneys in legal proceedings. We can refer you to education law attorneys when appropriate.

What if my child doesn't want me to get involved?

This is common. Many bullied students fear retaliation or embarrassment. We can help you have these conversations with your child and work within their comfort level while still ensuring their safety.

Can you help with cyberbullying?

Yes. Cyberbullying that affects student safety at school falls under school policies. We help document digital evidence and hold schools accountable for addressing it.

What if the bullying is happening outside of school?

If the bullying happens outside of school but affects your child's ability to learn and feel safe at school, districts still have obligations to address it under many state laws.
